"Head coach Rod Broadway announced the hiring of Chip Hester as an assistant football coach for the North Carolina A&T program.
Hester is replacing Johnny Cox as wide receivers coach for the Aggies. Cox was hired as the UNC Pembroke offensive coordinator recently.
Hester spent 11 seasons (2002-12) as the head football coach of Division II Catawba College. He is second on Catawba’s all-time wins list after compiling a 70-49 record. Hester led the Indians to an 11-2 mark, the South Atlantic Conference title, and a berth in the NCAA II Playoffs in 2007. For his efforts, he was named SAC and AFCA Region Coach of the Year.
The Indians also made the playoffs in 2002, while also winning league titles under Hester in ‘02 and ‘03. In all, Hester spent 18 seasons at Catawba after joining the staff in 1995 under then head coach David Bennett.
“Chip knows what he is doing on a football field. There is no question about that,” said Broadway. “He did some outstanding things at Catawba, so I’m looking forward to having him be a part of our staff. I’m looking forward to seeing how well he coaches up the guys on this football team.”
Hester is no stranger to Greensboro. He is a 1992 graduate of Guilford College, and has a degree in business management. He completed his master’s degree in sports management in 1993 at Georgia Southern."
