Greensboro College Spring Student Art Show Opens April 11

Untitled sculpture by Danielle Griffis

"Greensboro College's spring student art show will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11.

The reception and exhibition will be in the Anne Rudd Galyon and Irene Cullis galleries in the Cowan Humanities Building on campus. Admission to the reception and the exhibit is free.

Normal exhibit hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-12 noon Saturdays. The exhibition will be open through May 3.

The show will feature "some nice surprises in scale and content: paintings, life drawings, portraits, ceramics (some quite large and ambitious!), sculpture (also impressive in size!), and digital photography," says James v Langer, department chair, associate professor of art, and curator of the galleries. "We'll also have some surprises from the new Experimental Studio course which defy a simple category!"

Undergraduate students whose work will be displayed include:
  • Tyrone Barber of Fort Washington, Md.
  • Mason Beane of Asheboro
  • Brodie Ceperich of Glen Allen, Va.
  • Michael Cobb of Greensboro
  • Danielle Griffis of Durham
  • Morgan McIntyre of Reidsville
  • Michael Myers of Whitsett
  • Regina Robertson of Greensboro
  • Tony Robinson of Greensboro
  • Mica Sandoval of Portland, Ore.
Greensboro College Middle College students taking part include Bianca Burvick, Tanner Hausler, and Kelsey Vickrey, all of Greensboro.

Greensboro College's Department of Art seeks to extend the mind and heart of a student through embracing many things seemingly beyond gallery walls. Since Leonardo, artists have been more than mere technicians. The department spurs young makers of imagery, objects and experiences to gulp down as much of the world as they can handle and train their minds to apply diverse branches of inquiry, science and the humanities into their own art-making.
