"Thanks to The Fresh Market, the proceeds from this year's ArtsGreensboro Wine Gala on April 3 will be used to support arts programming in the schools through the organization's popular Teacher Art Grants program. The wine & culinary benefit is scheduled for Thursday April 3, 2014 at the 1560 Highwoods Boulevard Fresh Market store from 8-10pm (just off New Garden Road). The festivities will also celebrate the work and contributions of Guilford County's arts teachers, including the award of the 2014 Arts Teacher of the Year that evening.
Entertainment will include a special sneak preview of “Duke Ellington Uptown” presented by the Touring Theater of North Carolina. Tickets for the event are only $25, and can be purchased online at artsgreensboro.org or by calling ArtsGreensboro at 336-373-7523 weekdays.
The Fresh Market will offer a tasting of wonderful wines from around the world, paired together with delicious culinary delights, from crab cakes and shrimp, to other incredible hors d'oeuvres - all courtesy of The Fresh Market. "Our charity wine gala program is one of the unique ways The Fresh Market gives back to the Greensboro community," said Shelia Bennett, Field Marketing Manager for The Fresh Market. "By using 100% of the wine gala ticket sales, ArtsGreensboro will be able to expand arts programing in our local schools."
“ArtsGreensboro's Teacher Art Grant program is one our most important,” notes President & CEO Thomas Philion. “These grants help teachers enrich their curriculum by bringing artists into the classroom, encouraging cooperative arts projects among students, teachers, and PTA's. Last year, we were able to fund little more than half the requests, and thanks to The Fresh Market, we'll be able to grow the program for next year's grant cycle. Thank you Fresh Market!”
In addition to the fine food and wine, guests will enjoy excerpts from the Touring Theatre's performance of Duke Ellington Uptown, which celebrates one of America's greats as a preview to full performances later in the month at Mack and Mack in downtown Greensboro.
ArtsGreensboro is the community's largest source of dedicated financial support, funding arts and culture through a competitive process - from nationally recognized programs and projects like the Eastern Music Festival and Triad Stage - to community arts projects like the Magic Art Bus, artists throughout the Piedmont region, and arts-in-education initiatives in the schools. Each year, ArtsGreensboro supports more than 50 arts organizations and projects, with a high priority on access to the arts across all cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
