Brenda P Schleunes, Founder and Producing Artistic Director of Touring Theatre of North Carolina announced today the production of Duke Ellington Uptown, the third in the theatre's three part chamber series for 2013-14.

"Touring Theatre of North Carolina celebrates one of America's greats when this versatile company presents Duke Ellington Uptown April 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at Mack and Mack in downtown Greensboro.  Taking the unusual form of a biography/cabaret, five actors sing, scat, strut and swing twelve of the Duke's most popular songs.  Directed by Brenda Schleunes, featuring Perry Morgan at the piano, Vattel Cherry on base, Adam Bradby on drums along with jazz singers Sonya B. Brown and Carlo St. James with Touring Theatre regulars Kay Thomas, John Kernodle and Charetta Shaw choreographed by Donna Baldwin Bradby, the show promises to be an evening of delights for Ellington fans of all ages.

Duke Ellington Uptown is sponsored by Webster's Import Service.  Roger and Kathleen Webster generously support Touring Theatre not only financially but also with countless hours of time.  Webster's is family owned and has been serving Greensboro for nearly 30 years.  Please check out their website at www.webstersimportservice.com.

The Touring Theatre of North Carolina is one of the longest running professional theatre companies in the triad. Its innovative spirit allows it to respond to commemorations, celebrations and concerns of its local and state community.  Most of its productions focus on the work of southerners, especially North Carolinians and embody the ongoing human search for dignity across lines of ethnicity, gender, economic status, religion and age.  All productions are created with the highest professional standards and are designed to promote conversations about community.
