"The Winston-Salem Urban League (WSUL) announced today the appointment of Don Williams, a former Chair of the Board of Directors of the WSUL and a former corporate executive, to the position of interim President and CEO of the organization, effective Feb. 27.
Williams served as Chair of the WSUL Board of Directors from 2003-2006. He held various Human Resources positions at Lowe’s Home Improvement corporate office from 1996 to retirement in 2011. As the company’s first Workforce Diversity Manager, he helped start Lowe’s Diversity Program.
Prior to serving at Lowe’s he was Human Resources Director for Carolina Mirror Company from 1989 to 1996. In addition, he served Holly Farms Poultry Industries for 10 years, rising from Management Trainee through a series of promotions to Corporate Personnel Manager. He has extensive experience in all aspects of employment management, from compensation plans, group medical, training and development, Affirmative Action Plans and Programs, compliance audits and supplier diversity.
A graduate of Greensboro College with a B.S. degree in business management and legal administration, Williams also graduated with honors from the Dept. of Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1978 to 2006 retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Williams has served in numerous leadership positions with a variety of organizations. He has served as board chair of Hospice of Wilkes and United Way of Wilkes, board member of Rainbow Center of Wilkes, Wilkes Library, YMCA and presently Wilkes ADAP and Wells Fargo local advisory board.
